The Friends of Bellie Churchyard
On a visit to our parents’ grave in Bellie Churchyard in 2000, my brother, Ian, and I were saddened to see the untidy, uncared for appearance of the place … broken headstones, self-seeded trees, overgrown ivy and weeds … God’s forgotten corner on our doorstep – something, we declared, had to be done!
A legacy from Ian’s estate provided the seed. A tour of the 3 local churches brought a positive response – the prospect of a new ecumenical movement in the village seemed to appeal to everyone. A meeting followed and the ‘Friends of Bellie Churchyard’ was formed and blessed at a special service at Baxters Highland Village in 2003.
The Friends have gone on to do wonderful work. Information on what has already been achieved and the Friends’ future plans can be found on this new website.
I urge everyone who has a connection with this dear old place of history, of learning, of achievement, to support the Friends of Bellie Churchyard and folk in other regions, to do likewise in their own communities.
